The Apple iPhone celebrates its 6th anniversary today

Did you know? Apple?s legendary iPhone, arguably the first Smartphone in the world, turns 6 today.

Apple iPhone 2007

Phew, it?s been a long time since the introduction of the original iPhone. With the first full-touch Smartphone, Apple revolutionized the industry by churning out the first of, now uncountably many, the new Smartphone breed. Also, the company single?handedly changed the fate of US carriers by introducing the ?contract? regime, which was adopted since it allowed everyone to buy an iPhone ?on-contract? for as little as $299. Without AT&T?s contract, you would have had to shell out $499 for the Apple iPhone 4 GB, released on the 29th of June, 2007.

A quick recap of what the original iPhone packed on the inside:

  • 3.5-inch HVGA (480 x 320) Display
  • 412 MHz Single Core ARM11 CPU
  • PowerVR SGX Lite GPU
  • 128 MB RAM
  • 2 MP Fixed Focus Rear Camera
  • 2G Connectivity Only
  • 4/8 GB Internal Storage

Apple iPhone 6 years anniversary

Seems like something right out of the dinosaur era now. With the iPhone, iPhone 3G and 3GS, the company made rapid strides and stole hearts (and won sales) along the way. The introduction of the iPhone 4, in my opinion, was the most exciting yet. A brilliant new industrial design, excellent display and a zippy OS paved the way for the modern iOS operating system and the latest iPhones. Since then, the company hasn?t exactly been on the brim of innovation. Apple products are losing shine, they need to do something big, and iOS 7 is the first step towards realization of their new goal, recapture the market (from the growing army of droids).

Oh well? Memories? We are already aware that the iPhone 5S won?t bring about a revolution. Let?s hope it does come with the iPhone 6 though, or it might just be too little too late.
