Canon EOS Rebel T4i

By Jim Fisher

The Canon EOS Rebel T4i ($849 list, body only)??is the successor to the Rebel T3i , a camera that suffered from very slow autofocus in Live View mode. The T4i does a much better job, especially when used with Canon's latest STM lenses. It's not without its flaws, the most glaring of which is the small pentamirror optical viewfinder. The 18-megapixel shooter doesn't manage to oust the Nikon D5100 ?as our Editors' Choice for digital SLRs under $1,000, but it may be better camera if you're more focused on video performance.

Design and Features
About standard when compared to other D-SLRs in its class, the T4i measures 3.9 by 5.2 by 3.1 inches and weighs 1.1 pounds without a lens. Even though the competing Pentax K-30??is a smidge smaller at 3.8 by 5.1 by 2.8 inches, it's heavier at 1.4 pounds. This is due in part to its solid glass pentaprism viewfinder, which is larger and brighter than the pentamirror found in the T4i. If you're used to using the rear LCD of a point-and-shoot to frame the size of the viewfinder it may not bother you, but users who are accustomed to the large finders in older 35mm SLRs will likely find it lacking.

Experienced shooters demand a camera that provides easy access to shooting settings. The camera's Mode Dial, which sits next to its power switch, gives you access to a number of scene modes, which configure the camera to shoot sports, landscapes, and macro images, among others. The dial also lets you use Automatic, Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual shooting modes.?The T4i's control layout works, although it does feature only one control dial. You'll need to move up to the EOS 60D ?to get dual dials; the Pentax K-30 is one of the few mid-range SLRs with two control dials. There are control buttons to adjust ISO, White Balance, the Drive mode, Exposure Compensation, Autofocus mode, Exposure Lock, and Autofocus Point.

There's also a Q button, which allows you to adjust many of the same settings, along with the Metering mode, from the rear LCD. You can use the physical controls to navigate, or touch the screen to change settings. The display itself is extremely sharp and bright, thanks to a 1,040k-dot resolution. It's housed on an articulating arm, so you can view it from above, behind, or face it forward for self portraits.

Using PPC Advertising to Get Fast Targeted Traffic - Business ...

These days many online marketers and webmasters are choosing to go for pay per click marketing for their advertising needs. That's because there is no quicker way to instantly get website visitors than PPC. This is true for online businesses of all sizes and applies to affiliate marketers as well as those who market their own products. The reason PPC works so well is because of the amount of traffic search engines receive on a regular basis. In spite of so many different ways available to generate traffic, search engines still rule the roost when it comes to get visitors that convert into sales. One thing remains true whether you are trying to get your site to rank highly in the organic search engine listings or writing a pay per click ad: you must use the best and most targeted keywords. Getting high rankings for your keywords in the search results can take months, which is why PPC happens to be a more effective way to get faster results. There is no time lag; you can get your ad at the top of Page 1 right away if your bid is high enough. With PPC, all you have to do is outbid the competition and your ad can be at the top of the listings immediately. This brings you instant traffic that is not only targeted but is also high quality. If you follow these tips and suggestions, you'll be able to use PPC to get lots of traffic and make more sales.

It's extremely important that you take the time to test your landing pages. It's not enough to have a compelling ad copy written with primary placement. You also have to look at the next stage, having a landing page that converts your visitors into buyers. If your landing page doesn't convert, it doesn't matter how good your ad is.

All those clicks you get will only be costing you money if you don't take the time to design an optimized landing page. This is why you have to test your landing pages. Have your ads for every campaign point to a minimum of two different landing pages. This is an absolutely essential step if you need to get high returns from your campaigns. You can continue to upgrade your landing pages, as you take the best performing one and then test it against a new one.

Just because your ad has a high placement doesn't mean it will get lots of clicks. Your ad must be compelling to the people in your targeted niche. It should get the viewer interested and lead to a click. If your headline and ad don't capture viewers' attention, you won't get clicks. Your ad should also be truthful in regard to your offer. If your ad copy promises something that does not exist on your landing page, your visitors will not trust you and you will lose them. Do not forget there is a variety of approaches at your disposal with blueprint pro, and you need to understand the finer points about this strategy. Our attitudes always have a tremendous impact on what we achieve, and that is no less true when you are in business. If you stay in your business long enough and pay attention to your self, you will realize how much of an important part your daily thoughts have on how you perform in business. We would urge you to work to avoid taking things personally or negatively, and you can turn your business situation around in a number of ways including working with your mindset. Nothing really matters in terms of if you have failed so far or just have not quite figured things out; you can do more if you learn how. Options; we all have them whether you choose to believe that or not.

When you use PPC advertising, you have to watch your expenses and conversion rate. Once you know your numbers well, you'll know your conversion rates, which will determine how many leads/sales you get. By doing this, you can increase your budget on campaigns that are performing well and discontinue ones that aren't.

All in all, PPC advertising has a learning curve that you need to go through. You may even lose money when starting out, which is why it's a good idea to start off with a budget you can easily afford. You will become more proficient as you go along and soon your campaigns will be profitable.

What earnings reports have revealed about ads

Several companies that sell advertising have been reporting their quarterly earnings. Here are highlights from selected Internet and media companies and what they say about the state of spending on advertising:

? July 16: Gannett Co. says advertising demand was "uneven" and "choppy." Ad revenue at Gannett's newspaper publishing segment fell 8 percent to $594 million. Broadcasting revenue climbed 11 percent to $205 million, helped by stronger political and auto-related TV advertising, as well as growth at Gannett's Captivate business, which shows ads in elevators. The company expects the Olympics and political spending to bolster results in the second half of the year.

? July 17: Yahoo Inc. says revenue for the latest quarter dipped 1 percent to $1.22 billion. After taking out ad commissions, Yahoo's net revenue totaled $1.08 billion. That figure fell about $16 million below analyst estimates. The net revenue, a focal point for investors, was slightly higher than the same time last year. That marked the second consecutive quarter that Yahoo had posted modestly higher net revenue.

Omnicom Group Inc., which owns marketing agencies, says its U.S. business helped lift second-quarter net income 1.5 percent, making up for a decline overseas. Domestic revenue grew 5.4 percent, while international revenue fell 1.3 percent.

? July 19: Google Inc's earnings hit analysts' target as refinements to the company's Internet search technology lured more Web surfers to click on its revenue-producing ads. Google's revenue, excluding that from a recent Motorola purchase, stood at $8.36 billion after subtracting the ad commissions paid to its advertising partners. That was about $70 million below analyst projections. The number of total clicks on Google's ads during the second quarter increased 42 percent from the same time last year. The increasing volume in clicks helped Google shake off a deepening decline in its ad prices.

Microsoft Corp. takes a $6.2 billion accounting charge because its 2007 purchase of online ad service aQuantive hasn't yielded the returns envisioned by management. With that, Microsoft's online services division reported a loss of $6.7 billion, compared with a loss of $745 million a year ago. Revenue fell 8 percent to $735 million.

? July 25: AOL Inc. reports stronger-than-expected revenue and its fifth straight quarter of advertising growth ? signs that its efforts to turn its business around are starting to pay off. AOL's advertising revenue grew 6 percent to $338 million.

IAC/InterActiveCorp reports better-than-expected results for the second quarter thanks to sharply higher revenue from its family of websites and applications. Revenue from IAC's search segment, which includes ads and applications, grew 46 percent to $349 million.

? July 26: Interpublic Group of Cos., a holding company for advertising and marketing agencies, says second-quarter net income fell 3 percent, hurt by some U.S. account losses in 2011 and the stronger dollar. Account losses included consumer products maker S.C. Johnson & Son Inc.

The New York Times Co. reports that second-quarter revenue increased slightly. Most of the revenue gain stemmed from higher newspaper circulation, especially in its digital editions. That helped to offset advertising revenue declines. The company says its advertising revenue decreased 7 percent to $244 million.

Meredith Corp., publisher of Better Homes and Gardens and Fitness magazines, says advertising revenue rose 11 percent to $210.3 million, helped by the acquisitions of the Allrecipes.com, EveryDay with Rachael Ray and FamilyFun brands.

? July 31: Discovery Communications Inc. says ad revenue grew 7 percent in the U.S. thanks to higher pricing, while ad revenue grew 11 percent abroad.

? Aug. 1: Time Warner Inc. says ad revenue at its TV networks increased 2 percent largely because of higher ad rates and an increase in the number of NBA games shown on its channels. But ad revenue at news networks in the U.S. and entertainment networks abroad fell. Ad revenue at the Time Inc. magazine division fell 7 percent. The company says ad sales may be slower in the current quarter partly because advertisers are diverting money to the Olympics. It also expects to be showing fewer baseball games during the quarter, but that will be made up with a heavier fourth-quarter schedule.

Comcast Corp. says ad revenue at NBCUniversal cable networks increased 4 percent. The networks include CNBC, MSNBC and Bravo.

TV station operator Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. says political ad spending has been three times higher than the company expected. Political ad revenue came to $11.4 million in the quarter, up from $1.2 million a year ago. Some of that is from buying additional stations.

? Aug. 2: CBS Corp. says advertising revenue fell 3 percent to $2.14 billion. In the current quarter, CEO Les Moonves conceded that the market for last-minute ad buys is showing some "softness". He blamed NBC's coverage of the London Olympics for taking away a lot of the available viewers and ad dollars.

Time Warner Cable Inc. says ad revenue increased 18 percent to $265 million, in part because of increased in political spending.

? Aug. 3: Viacom Inc. says U.S. advertising at its TV networks fell 7 percent. Viacom has been struggling with a ratings decline for key channels, particularly Nickelodeon. The company says the timing of certain awards shows also cut into advertising revenue. Last year, both shows were in the third quarter; this year, neither was.

? Aug. 7: The Walt Disney Co. says ad revenue at ESPN rose in the "mid-teen" percentages thanks to higher prices, sales volume and bigger audiences.

? Aug. 8: News Corp. says ad revenue at its U.S. cable channels grew 5 percent in the latest quarter, led by growth at its regional sports networks and National Geographic channels. Ad revenue at channels abroad grew 18 percent because of improving ad markets and viewership. Broadcast television saw lower national advertising revenue largely because of lower ratings for "American Idol."

? Thursday: WPP Group PLC, an owner of ad agencies, says revenue grew 5.5 percent in North America and 6.1 percent in the U.K. during the second quarter, but fell 3 percent in Western Europe.

Samsung unveils ATIV Smart PC and Smart PC Pro with detachable keyboard dock, S Pen

Samsung didn't leave its ATIV introductions to just an ARM tablet and a phone. We first saw them as the Series 5 and Series 7 tablets, which will likely be their final US names; to recap, though, the newly branded ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro both look to capture some of that Transformer-like aura by mating an 11.6-inch tablet with a detachable keyboard dock for a laptop experience. Some of Samsung's own Galaxy Note vibe rubs off on them, too -- both carry an S Pen and a bundled S Note app for some on-the-spot writing. They likewise share support for 3G and 4G as well as micro-HDMI and USB, but there's a clear difference depending on what you buy. Going for the regular Smart PC loads in a modest Clover Trail-based Intel Atom processor and a 1,366 x 768 display, but offers a lengthy 13.5-hour battery life, 2GB of RAM, up to a 128GB flash drive, a rear 8-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. Slap that "Pro" moniker on the front and you have to drop to eight hours of battery life and a 5-megapixel rear camera, but you'll get a much faster Core i5 processor, a 1080p display, 4GB of RAM and as much as a 256GB SSD. Unlike the ATIV Tab, we do know the Smart PCs will be available in the US on October 26th at $649 for a base Smart PC/Series 5, $749 for a bundle with the keyboard and $1,119 for a Smart PC Pro/Series 7 with a 128GB SSD built-in.

Spacecraft pair to explore mysterious region where other satellites fear to tread

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., August 30, 2012 Los Alamos National Laboratory expertise in radiation detection and shielding is poised to help a national team of scientists better understand a mysterious region that can create hazardous space weather near our home planet.

The Helium Oxygen Proton Electron (HOPE) analyzer is one of a suite of instruments that was successfully launched today as part of the Radiation Belt Storm Probe missionan effort by NASA and the Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory to gain insight into the Sun's influence on Earth and near-Earth space by studying our planet's radiation belt.

The radiation beltalso known as the Van Allen belt in honor of its discoverer, James Van Allenis a donut shaped soup of charged particles that surrounds Earth and occupies the inner region of our planet's Magnetosphere. The outer region of the belt is comprised of extremely high-energy electrons, a shower of tiny, negatively charged bullets if you will, that can easily pierce the skin of spacecraft and knock out their electrical components. Because of these hazards, spacecraft routinely avoid the region.

"Today we are boldly going where no spacecraft ever wants to go," said plasma physicist Geoffrey Reeves of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Intelligence and Space Research Division. "We know we're going into the riskiest of environments, so we've taken the greatest steps ensure the satellites can complete their mission."

Combined with its inner region of energetic protons and electrons, the Radiation Belt is thought to be a product of cosmic rays and charged particles from the Sun carried toward Earth by the solar wind. The energy of particles within the belt constantly changes, and scientists have sought for decades to understand the mechanisms underlying these fluctuations.

Some space scientists originally thought the intensity of the radiation belts was fairly predictable. Conventional thought assumed that radiation energy levels within the belt increased when the belt was hammered by a large solar storm. However, recent observations have shown that radiation energy intensifies only about half the time after a storm interacts with the belt; in fact, about one-quarter of the time, energy within the belt actually decreases on the heels of a solar drubbing, Reeves said.

"We now know that big storms do not necessarily create large amounts of radiation," he said.

Understanding the radiation belt environment and its variability has extremely important practical applications in the areas of spacecraft operations, spacecraft and spacecraft system design, and mission planning and astronaut safety.

To better observe the complex processes in the radiation belts, the RBSP mission is sending a pair of probes to circle the Earth. The probes will orbit at different speeds, allowing researchers to see subtle energy changes from dual vantage points on much shorter time scales than anything available from Earth's surface.

The Los-Alamos-designed HOPE instrument is part of a subset of instruments aboard the craft that will directly measure near-Earth space radiation particles to understand the physical processes that control the acceleration, global distribution, and variability of radiation belt electrons and ions. One of the things that makes HOPE unique is the instrument's ability to measure the more subtle, low-energy particles (electrons, hydrogen, and helium and oxygen ions) while under intense fire from the radiation belts' high-energy particles.

"It's like measuring the smallest, slowest raindrops in the eyewall of a hurricane," said Herb Funsten, principal investigator for HOPE instrument and chief engineer for Los Alamos' Intelligence and Space Research Division. "This is a tremendously difficult measurement. We detect atoms and electrons one at a time, and we sort the atoms by their weight. We have to make sure that the high-energy electron bullets that penetrate the instrument walls don't mess up our measurements."

The ability to successfully design and build an instrument to provide precise measurements under demanding high-energy conditions not only aids the RBSP mission, but can provide useful expertise for future intelligence applications as well.

A dozen instruments aboard the two probes will help unravel mysteries of the Van Allen Belt, but HOPE will be one of the last of the group to switch on. Because of HOPE's sensitivity to contamination, scientists will give the spacecraft time to complete its thruster firings, and for any remaining trapped gas in the spacecraft and instrument to dissipate before HOPE begins taking measurements.

"We'll wait for the probe to shed the rest of its spacecraft body odor before we turn on," Reeves said. "Then, all the instruments will work together to solve the radiation belt puzzle. Ultimately we want to make life better here on the ground by making sure all satellite keep working the way they are supposed to."

The RBSP mission is slated to continue for two years. Los Alamos scientists are hoping to begin having preliminary data to share with other space scientists by the end of the year if the mission experiences no complications.

Will you be my mentor? ? Business Management Daily: Free ...

Mentors are important to your success as an administrative professional?and they are easier to find than you fear, says Shellye Archambeau, CEO of MetricStream, a firm that helps companies meet compliance standards.

Adopting mentors can be as easy as going up and asking them, Archambeau says. ?What I found is that, especially if you?re young, when you go up to people and say, ?Would you mind being my mentor?? their eyes widen. They literally step back.?

In some cases, however, ideal mentors may not have time for a prot?g?, and will decline such a request if asked outright. Her suggested alternative: Simply start treating the person as a mentor, gradually winning her over. Ask for her advice, follow the advice, and report back to the person on how her wisdom brought results. This positively reinforces her advice-giving and creates a stronger relationship.

Jerry Lawler's Memphis foes

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Jerry "The King" Lawler became a beloved hero in his hometown of Memphis, Tenn., by taking on all comers. On Raw, "King" took exception to CM Punk's remark that he had defeated "a bunch of nobodies in Memphis" and got "into a slap fight with a Hollywood comedian." The WWE Hall of Famer named the Legends he'd beaten in "The River City's" Mid-South Coliseum, but who were those guys? (WATCH)

If you were the AWA or NWA World Heavyweight Champion, travelling the globe defending your title to prove that you were at that time "Best in the World," it was required that you put the 10,000-seat sold-out Mid-South Coliseum on your itinerary, face Jerry Lawler and hope you escaped with your title. Organization Revenue Instruction - Every Sales Manager is really a ...

As a sales manager you are in charge of the production of your sales associates. Consequently, it is important that you are capable and prepared to offer business sales training for your people. Your reps have to be correctly educated to work in the area. Giving sales training for your team will allow you to bridge performance spaces and have a stronger, bigger producing sales organization. After all, who knows better as to what type of sales training your team needs than you? You?re the sales manager so you should know the limitations and strengths of your sales experts. With that understanding, you are able to modify business sales training that addresses the requirements of all the members on your team. For instance, several specialists in sales challenge because they lack the practices and appropriate attitudes of a successful sales person. Since the sales manager, you may need to make a new tradition for your team so they will appear at sales from a different prospective. The sales manager of a sizable financial services company created a personal development reading system that consisted of having his sales team read personal development books. Within 60 days of beginning the reading program, the sales variety of the organization very nearly tripled. This may be the type of huge difference a simple change in mindset or practices can make in a sales organization. Obviously, there may be other reasons why your sales staff may perhaps not be performing the manner in which you think they will as well. For this reason you as a sales manager have to be willing to put on the sales coach cap. Help your staff by providing them the approaches, tools, and methods required to boost their sales performance.Just like any great instructor you have to identify what the problems are first before recommending any specific sales training solution. This may involve heading out to the area and making sales calls with your representatives. For example, your sales representatives may be doing a terrible job at pre-qualifying a possibility. They obtain a large amount of sessions but make not many sales. You may not understand this unless you venture out in the area and see that they are ending up in those who are not qualified order your product or service. For yourself causes it to be easier for you to advocate a training solution on the best way to pre-qualify prospects. The training solution experiencing this might be one or two small changes to a dramatic difference that can be made by the sales process. It?s likely you have an agent that continues to offer following the client has suggested that they are ready to get. Being an experienced sales professional, you know if you?re not careful that you could talk your path right out of a purchase. Creating the minor fine-tune of requesting the business and being silent can give a sales manager to a major return. As, it?s important that you are prepared to be described as a sales coach when necessary. You desire to make certain you?re able to supply the ideal business sales training for the group. Doing this will significantly increase your team?s performance.

Spinach & Artichoke Dip Pasta | Pretty Yummy Foods

Get a pot of salted water boiling and to it add a box of penne.

Keep an eye on your pasta and make sure to drain it when it?s?al dente (firm but not hard)! We are also going to bake this pasta so we don?t want it to be overcooked when this dish comes out of the oven.

Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a?separate?pot and?saut? one diced white onion?

And two 2 cups of chopped fresh spinach.

Now season your sauteed veggies with 1 tablespoon of garlic powder?

And a pinch of nutmeg.

Nutmeg is the kind of spice that can either enhance or quickly take over a dish, so just a bit will do!

Don?t forget to throw some salt and pepper on those veggies as well!

Now sprinkle 3 tablespoons of flour over your onions and spinach.

Stir your flour around the pot until it has all cooked through (about 2 minutes).

Once your flour has cooked to a light brown hue, whisk in 2 cups of chicken broth?

1 cup of heavy cream?

And one can of drained and chopped artichoke hearts.

Please note, these are not the marinated artichoke hearts!

Bring this pot to a slow simmer?

Then add 1 cup of shredded?parmesan?cheese?

And 1 cup of?shredded?mozzarella.

If you?want?to add more cheese to this sauce please be my guest. You know I did!!

Stir your cheese in over low heat and don?t forget to taste this sauce!

Does it need a bit more salt, maybe some more pepper? I?doubt it?ll need any more nutmeg, but if you think it does then I trust your taste buds!

Time to put it all together!

Grab an oven proof dish and combine your cooked pasta?

With your cheesy artichoke and spinach sauce.

But before this goes into the oven?

Let?s top it with a few?handfuls?of?mozzarella!

I know, right?!

Ok, now you can pop this under a your broiler until a nice cheesy crust has formed on top of your dish.

Dinners like this make me just a tad bit excited that bathing suit season is almost over!

Enjoy!

Author Insights: Midlife Fitness May Ease the Burden of Chronic ...

Jarett D. Berry, MD, MS, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and colleagues found that having high levels of fitness in middle age is associated with avoiding or delaying chronic disease in late life. (Image: UT Southwestern Medical Center)

Being fit in middle life appears protective against developing chronic diseases later in old age and is also associated with living the final 5 years of life with fewer chronic diseases. The findings appear today in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Researchers from the Cooper Institute and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas studied 18?670 healthy participants in the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study who lived long enough to receive Medicare coverage (a benefit that typically becomes available at age 65 years) from 1999 through 2009. Fitness in midlife was assessed by a Balke treadmill test. The median age of the study population at the time of enrollment was 49 years, and 21% of them were women. Using Medicare data to determine which participants had certain chronic conditions, the researchers found that for both men and women, those who had been in the highest quintile of fitness in middle age were less likely than those who had been in the lowest quintile of fitness in middle age to have 1 or more chronic conditions. The chronic conditions assessed were congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, stroke, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer disease, and colon or lung cancer.

Coauthor Jarett D. Berry, MD, MS, an assistant professor of internal medicine at the medical center, discusses his team?s findings:

?It?s been well established that individuals with higher levels of fitness live longer with fewer cardiovascular disease deaths, but we wanted to know about chronic disease levels earlier than just at the time of death. We wanted to know if people with higher levels of fitness not only live longer, but also live better. So we merged Medicare claims files with the Cooper Center data set with the goal of looking at levels of fitness and the overall burden of disease in older age.

?We showed that individuals with higher levels of fitness have a lower burden of chronic disease. We showed that with a higher level of fitness at age 50, not only are we delaying the onset of these chronic conditions, we?re preventing them. Also, we found a compression of morbidity: the burden of these chronic conditions is being compressed into a shorter period of time later in life for those with high levels of fitness at age 50.

?These findings have a broader implication for fitness in that it provides true health benefits?not just in delaying chronic disease, but preventing it. The things we do in our 50s can affect the remainder of our lives.?
