Canadians, Chinese big U.S. real estate buyers

If your real estate listing site isn?t reaching the Canadian and Chinese audiences, it is missing out on a ton of prospective buyers, according to World Property Channel, and statistics from the National Association of Realtors (NAR.)

Here are some impressive statistics and notable facts:

  • Foreign nationals spent $82.5 billion, or 8.9%, of the $928 billion spent on U.S. residential real estate from April 2011 through March 2012. This was a 24 percent year-over-year increase.
  • Half of this money was spent on properties in?Florida, California, Texas, Arizona and New York.
  • Canadians spent 24 percent of these total dollars, primarily as investment now and retirement later.
  • Buyers from mainland China and Hong Kong spent more than $7 billion in sales annually, primarily on multi-million dollar homes.
  • Citizens of Russia, Brazil and France buy heavily in the U.S. as well. The French buy primarily in Southern Florida

Here?s a YouTube video?shared oh StreetEasy?that talks about the many Russian citizens who are buying in New York City.
