Language Rich Europe Closing Conference | EUNIC online

Join the?Brussels conference on 5 March via twitter when Language Rich Europe experts present the recommendations from the project?s research. European politicians will respond to those recommendations, but LRE would like your input as well! So you?re invited to join us from 11.00 (CET) onwards when the first panel of the day is taking place.?#LREaction

Speakers on that panel will be: ??

  • Doris Pack, Member of the European Parliament, Head of Culture Committee
  • Kristina Cunningham, Head of Sector, Multilingualism policy, European Commission
  • Sjur Bergan, Head of Education Department, Council of Europe

The panel will be chaired Xavier North, Delegate-General for the French language and languages of France, Ministry of Culture and Communication

Just to mention a few of the topics that the panel will address:?

The growing mix of immigrant languages and the rise of English has changed the landscape of European languages recently. ?It has become more important than ever to speak more than one language in order to become economically successful.? What does that mean for European policies and policy makers? What does it mean for companies and their employees?

With English on the rise, how can we assure the learning of other languages is equally supported by our education systems??

And this is now where we hope many of our blog readers and followers on twitter will come in:?We will tweet the recommendations and would like to hear your opinion on them and how you think they could be implemented in the best way.

We also have some questions for you:

  • What would be your European Recommendation on multilingualism?
  • What should be the future focus of multilingual policy?
  • Should languages present in communities be offered in schools and universities?
  • Do you think the European Commission?s trilingual formula of ?mother tongue plus two? is still enough?
  • Is the strong position of English threatening multilingualism?

Just follow (and use) the hashtag #LREaction ? your tweets will be appearing on a twitter wall during the conference ? have your say!
